Registered 4.98 inches of rain fell Tuesday evening in less than half an hour between 5:80 and 6 • o’clock. The town of Washington witnessed sheets of rain that obscured vision like a heavy fog.
D. C. Updike was at his barn when the rain began. His family - became concerned about him, but couldn't reach him in a car beoause the small stream between the house and barn had him marooned. His son-in-law, Pete Scudere, donned a bathing suit and • waded the stream to find~lfrr-Updike safe on an island in the barn.

A tree came down in the highway near Wayland’s Service Station. A man was seen, in the blinding rain, removing the large wood from the highway for, being just over the brow of a hill, a motorist "-could not have seen it in time to prevent a wreck. Cars were parked on the highway when drivers realized they could not see sufficiently to drive.
The rain was most welcome, following the recent dry spell, but, as some hove commented, iwe can take it easier in smaller doses and more often.
Neighboring counties received a rain, but not the heavy rain that fell in Rappahannock. Bradley Atkins says ** they don’t pay the preacher a* well as we do in Rappahannqpk and that's why they don’t get the rain when they need it. ;
