Boy Scouts Earn
86 Merit Badges
Boy Scout Troop #64 of Washington^ Virginia has earned 86 Merit Badges since July. This is the best record of any troop in the Two Rivers District of Shenandoah Council. The I badges were awarded in all phases of Scouting. T. Carlyle Lea, Jr. is Scoutmaster and Ray Snead Assistant Master. Troop 64 boasts 4 Life Scouts, Frank Moffett, Page Moffett, David Palmer and Jimmy Jenkins. It has 2 Star scouts, Ned Jones and Roger Hawkins; 2 First Class Scouts, Milton Gore, jr. and C. E. Giles, jr. Three of the boys, Frank Moffett, Jimmy Jenkins and David Palmer, are Scout Lifeguards. Two of them have the distinction of swimming a mile. They are David Palmer and Frank Moffett. Frank is also Junior assistant Scoutmaster. Jimnfy Jenkins is senior patrol leader and Roger Hawkins, Ronnie Hawkins and David Palmer are patrol leaders. Page Moffett is the Scribe, C. E. Giles, jr. is Librarian and Milton Gore; jr.. Quarter, master. Numerous donations have been made to the Troop for equipment. Robert Brock made three equipment chests and presented them to the group. Edwin Scroggins, jr. has given the Troop permission to use the old barbarshop on Gay Street as their meeting house. Plans of the immediate future include the sale of First Aid kits for home, auto
