* Drought, floods, hurricanes, high tides, and windstorms were among the natural disasters requiring emergency assistance for farmers and ranchers in many States and areas dur-, ing the past year. Made availablethrough ASCS in areas designated for emergency aid were programs including (1) donation' or sale of feed grains owned by the Commodity Credit Corporation; (2) grazing and haying privileges under three supply-adjustment programs; (3) emergency conservation cost-sharing mea-‘ sures under ACP’ and (4) use of CCC-owned grain for emergency wildlife feeding. The assistance offered pro-' vided immediate or sustained aid as needed. Through Oct. 31, 1962, as a result of drought or flood in the various areas, grazing and haying privileges on lands retired under the conservation reserve or the 1962 feed grain and wheat stabilization programs were granted to farmers in 484 counties in 20 states. The total area to which the gracing and haying privileges applied amounted to more than a million acres.
