ginia Employment Commission, responsible in this State, and locally, for initiating MDTA training courses. To date, however, no tabulation has been made as to the number applying in this area for training. The Virginia Employment Commission office at Charlottesville is accepting inquiries and applications from »any jobless area resident who desires consideration for training courses which may be established here and elsewhere in the State. Under MDTA, passed by the Congress last year, VEC and its local employment service offices are responsible for (1) determining occupations in which a demand for trained workers exist; (2) the selection of applicants and determining their eligibility under the law; (3) the administration of benefit allowances payable to certain individuals enrolled in training courses, and (4) the placement of those trained following completion of courses. The Virginia Department of Education has responsibility for establishment and conduct of training courses indicated by VEC to meet needs of area workers and the local economy.
