Rappahannock County farmers are scheduled to receive $2,400 of the more than $540000 allocated by the U. S, Department of Agriculture to 42 Virginia counties hit hard by last year’s drought. The money has been appropriated to re-seed land with permanent grass cover. The money is being made available to the counties on the basis of sizd and extent of drought damage. The U. S. Department of Agriculture is allocating it on a 50-50 matching basis. Under this method the individual farmer pays onehalf of the money required to re-seed the land, while the federal government pays the other one-half. fames W, Coates, County Office Manager, statedthatappli cations will now be received by his office for county farmers to take part in the program The applications will be reviewed by a county committee which approves the relief payments. Wood, member. “The relief program is set up to aid farmers put land into permanent vegetative cover which includes alfalfa and pasture grass," Coates said. He said the local aid will be administered on the same basis the state uses to determine allocations - size and extent of damage by drought.
