COMMISSION OF GAME AND

INLAND FISHERIES

Holman Willis, Jr., Chairman 4*22-k

Of Va. Hod Industry

Virginia produces only about 40 percent of the pork she consumes. This means that 60 percent of the hogs slaughtered in Virginia must be shipped in from other states. Virginia therefore is a hog deficit area, and as such she enjoys a very good hog market, since there is keen competition among slaughterers for the available hogs.

Virginia swine numbers are predicted to increase by 38 percent in the period 1959 - 75.
