ix gxma. Thus hog production, both slaughter hogs and feeder pigs, holds promise for increasing the income of many farm operators. This growth in hog production must, however, be based on improved quality so that slaughter hog carcasses are competitive with hogs shipped in from other areas, and feeder pigs will be of uniform “meat type" that will be in demand because of their extablished reputation. Hog production in Virginia has been imoroved considerably over the past several years. New facilities, new management techniques, better rations and many other factors have been a part of this improvement. The quality of Virginia hogs has shown much improvement also. Indications are, that because the state is a hog deficit area and there is a readily available market for hogs of any quality, this improvement has
