Byrd’s Nest No. 4, an Adirondack type trail shelter! being constructed inShenan-i doah National Park through; the generosity of Virginia's] Senior United States Senator,! Harry F. Byrd, Sr., will be dedicated June 12, Superintendent R. Taylor Hoskins announced today. Hoskins said the dedicatory date was set for the Saturday inearest the Senator’s birth‘day, which he will observe! iJune 10. I The shelter is the fourth to be donated by Senator Byrd, one of the prime movers in the establishment of Shenandoah National Park. It is located on a peak just north of the Beahms Gap parking area at Mile 28.5 at an elevation of approximately 2,800 feet and commands a beautiful view of the Piedmont section^of Virginia to the east. Hoskins reported that the shelter is approximately 80% complete, and it is expected that it will be ifinished by mid-May. The other Byrd’s Nests are |No. 1, Old Rag Mountain; No. 2, Hawksbill Mountain; and |No* 3, between Marys Rock and Pinnacles Mountain.
