George Gibson of Culpeper, Frederick Smith of Orange and James Greene won fourth place in forestry. Gibson won first place in The Soil and Water Management Award and received a certificate and check for $50 from the Ford Motor Company, Tractor and Implement Operations. The recipient will attend the National NFA Convention in Atlanta, Georgia in October and will receive an additional $200 providing he is placed first again and $100.00 if placed second or third. 1 Richard Porter of Culpeper was placed fourth in the annual talent contest with asaxaphone solo. Ronald Beckwith of Culpeper was Porter’s accompanist.
James H. Green, a young farmer in Culpeper and Madison counties was the recipient and first place winner for the H. O. Sargent Award and received a certificate and a check for $50.00 from The Ailed Chemical Corporation. James will also make the Atlanta trip and receive an additional $500.00 or $250.00. James H. Seals of Culpeper, an adult farmer and treasurer for the agricultural advisory council wa6 awarded the Honorary Modern Farmer Degree along with a certificate and a gold key. It has been through the cooperative efforts of the in school, young and adult farmer programs at the school that these awards, citations and metals were made possible.
Miss Harriet Lewis of Washington, D. C. was a weekend guest of her father C. C. Lewis and family in Sperryville.
