Local 4-H’ers Make Tour of Mount Vernon
Our 4-H educational tour this year was on Wednesday, June' 9, to the Washington, D. C. area. Eighty-two 4-H members, leaders, and guests left on two chartered buses shortly after 7:30 A. M., with the first stop at Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington. This was twenty more than last year’s number of participants. We toured the house and grounds, museum, boat dock, and Washington’s tomb. As a 4-H group there was no charge for admission Before lunch we stopped at the Washington National airport and were also surprised with a personal tour of a large astro jet plane. We had our picnic lunch on the mall by the Smithsonian buildings. Then we spent some time in the museum of natural history and the science building.
Some oj^ the boys rode the elevators and escalators more than doing anything else. Our last stop was at the Lincoln Memorial. We had also hoped to visit the Jefferson Memorial, it time had permitted. With a supper break for hamburgers, french fries, and a milk shake at McDonalds in Fairfax, we arrived back in Washington, Virginia, about 7:30 p. m. All of this cost only three dollars! It was a grand day.
