Bill Payne won first place with his pen of three ewes at the 4-H lamb show in Winchester on Monday. The 4-H Sears pig chain is located in the Flint Hill area for this year. The five boys with this project are; Wayne Sutphin, David Rinker, Boyd H. Moretz, Jr., Fred William Dodson and Collis William Dodson. The winners in the last years pig chain project ending June 1 will be announced in Front Royal shortly. Boys and girls in last years Sears pig project were Martha Lou O’Bannon, Steve Green, Steve Smith, George Menefee and C. G. Thornhill, Jr. Last Friday and Saturday the county 4-H forestry school was held at Mr. C. E. Johnson’s farm at Sperryville. Classes in tree identification, fire suppression, timber stand improvement, and making and using tee log scale sticks were taught by Chief Fire Warden, Raymond Johnson, State Forester, Bill Vernam of Warrenton and William McElfresh of V.P.l. A visit to the fire tower at Woodville was held on Saturday.
For recreation the boys enjoyed swimming, rope climbing, races, shot put and javelin throwing. A sudden shower at supper time caused the boys to eat their barbecued chicken on the run to shelter! Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Thornhill visited the camp with a
