Levy To Be Raised
The Board of Supervisors of Rappahannock County met Monday, June 14, to discuss the proposed budget for the county for the coming fiscal year. A committee had worked up the budget and the figures presented the Board included a ten cent increase in the tax rate. The fiscal year begins June 30.
The toal of the budget expenditures isfiguredat $555,809.00, an increase from the year ending. Last year’s total was $500,489.00. Theprt mary increases in the 65-66 budget were for schools and welfare. The levy this year is set at $3.80. A decrease occurred in the expenditures of the Treasurer of the county for a thousand dollar bonding fee paid in prior years is not required this time. The school increase of operating costs include the purchase of a school bus, teacher’s salaries, educational TV and additional land for school expansion. The local-share of welfare funds amounts to $18,428.00 as a part of the total $102,410. 00 of which $83, 98^.00 comes from the Federal and State funds. A meeting of the Supervisors will be held June 24 for the adoption or rejection of the proposed budget which is published elsewhere in thispapei; The meeting is open to the public.
