The Board of Supervisors on June 4 authorized George H. Davis, Jr,, Commonwealth Attorney, to file two County boundary line suits -- one against Culpeper and one against Madison. Mr. Davis was also authorized to consult with the law firm of Christian, Barton, Parker, Epps and Brent of Richmond for an advisory opinion. Mr. A. J. Brent, speaking for the Richmond law firm in a recent letter to Mr. Davis, states, “we have reached the opinion that Rappahannock Co. has a strong claim to certain land now located in Culpeper County.” Mr. Brent further stated that, “our initial examination of the Act of February 8, 1833 creating Rappahannock County resulted in the immediate reaction that the designated line from the junction of the Hughes and Hazel rivers ‘to a bend in the river near a point called Giant’s Castle’ would naturally be understood to run the line with the river” that, “examination of the Boye’ map of 1827 persuades us that this line along the Hazel river was the line intended by the General Assembly.” The legal conclusions reach
