The Sears Roebuck Foundation 4-H Pig Chair awards were presented Rappahannock and Warren County 4-H’ers at the annual dinner meeting held Friday evening, October 8 at the Hy-Wy Restaurant in F ront Royal. The Sears Foundation Pig Chain was started twenty years ago and has considerably increased swine values and improved the stock. A pig is given to the 4-H'ers and this must be raised and bred. From the litter one pig is given to another youngster and the others he sells or continues his swine project. Thus the chain continues. , Steve Green of Slate Mills was first place winner In Rap> pahannock and received a cash award of $18.50 and a ribbon. Steve is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Green. C. G. Thornhill, Jr., ranked second and was awarded $16 and a blue ribbon. He exhibited his pigs at the Orange Area Hog Show and Sale in August and placed 3rd and 4th in his division in singles 100-185 pounds. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Thornhill of Boston, In third place was Martha Lou O’Bannon, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice O’Bannon of Woodville. She received a $14 cash award. Runners-up were George Menefee, son of Mr. and Mrs. I. L. Menefee, Boston and Steve Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Smith, Boston. Their prizes were $9 and $5 respectively. Awards were presented by Mrs. Bessie Miller, representative of the Sears Roebuck Foundation, who expressed pleasure at the good project work accomplished
