Weather cooperating, those who plan to travel Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park during the next two weekends will be in for a brilliant display of color as the summer green is taken over by autumn splendor, Superintendent R, Taylor Hoskins predicted today.
Hoskins reminded prospective travelers that there were 80,000 visits to the Park during the weekend of October 12 - 13, 1963 and more than 67,000 during the weekend of October 17 - 18 last year, thus stressing the advantages of travel during the week for those who are able to do so. It is not possible to predict an over-all peak color date for the Park, according to Hoskins, who explained that with the area extending for more than 100 miles from north to south the so-called peak var^ ies with full color normally taking over first in the southern portion.
