Changes Explained
Several important changes in the election of county committees will be initiated at the county convention held for that purpose this year, according to H. S. Barksdale, Chairman, Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation County Committee. The convention will be held October 22, in the County ASCS Office at 9 a.m. The changes are designed to give more continuity and stability to operating policies in ASCS County Offices and to improve administration of farm programs by local committees. They are part of a continuing process to make more effective use of farmercommittees in local administration of programs, to increase their importance and status, and to attract outstanding farm leaders to serve in these positions. One change in the convention elections — effective this year — is that all regular members of the various committees within the county (instead of the chairmen only) will elect the county committeemen at the convention. Other changes are that the county committeemen will be elected for 3-year staggered terms (instead of for one year) and the service of each county committeeman will be limited to three consecutive terms (previously there has been no limitation).
