ridges. Most overlooks offer a panoramic view of spotty color. Reds include dogwood, black gum, sumac, red maple, scarlet oak and Virginia creeper. Yellow is predominant in the birch, ash,hickory, basswood, tulip poplar and chestnut oak. Some orange is beginning to show in the sassafras. It is not expected that the peak color in this District will be reached for several days. Central (II. S. 211 to U. S. 33) - Green still strongly stands out as dominant in the fall color scheme. Even so the reds and golds of the oaks are becoming noticeable on the ridges and siopes. It is estimated that the foliage is about one-third of peak. South (U. S. 33 to U. S. 250) - There is a good variation of bright color throughout about 60% of the District and with a continuation of mild weather it may well be that the color peak will be reached during the coming weekend. Red is showing through in the dogwood, black gum, white oak, black oak and Virginia creeper, and yellow is beginning to take over the hickory, chestnut, oak, ash, maple, birch, sassafras and basswood.
