Rainbows Stocked

Approximately 3600 Rainbow trout were stocked in three Rappahannock streams Friday. Officials from the Commission of Game and Inland Fisheries, with some local assistance, put trout in Rush River, Piney Branch and Thornton River. The fish are transported in trucks equipped with compartments which hold water fed with oxygen. The fish are netted from the truck tank and carried to the stream where they are released. Conducting the stocking were fish biologist Eugene Surber, fish management aide, Robert Brooks, Game Wardens Harmon Robson, J. W. Simpson, Robert Crigler and Robert Inskeep and B. S. Denny. Long before noon Saturday, April 2, at which time the season officially opens, the banks of the streams will be lined,.with excited sportsmen awaiting the hour. According to an authority in the Clerk’s Office where fishing licenses are sold, the sale of these has been slow, but there is usually a rush just' before the trout season opens and that is expected to begin today. As a Conservation Project, the Boy Scouts of Troop # , with the assistance of Game Warden J. W. Simpson, spent Saturday cleaning up the river banks prior to the season.
