I have been interested in the letters to your paper pertaining to the school building proj gram; however, we became sidetracked a couple of weeks ago on another issue and have not since returned to what, I consider, the more important issue - the proposed fourteenroom structure versus the thirty-room structure. It is my sincere belief that a community interested in education for all its youth will provide and insist upon proper facilities with qualified, as well as competent, teachers and administration; and certainly certified teachers do not always make competent teachers, but this responsibility rests upon the administration. However, the administration V can do little without support - financial and otherwise - from the community. I am a former teacher ol Rappahannock, having taught j here for thirteen years. 1 taught in both the Washington and Sperryville buildings, and the condition of those Structures (which should have been replaced years ago) was deplorable, and 1 think to spenc any more money on them is a foolish waste of tax money, I taught one whole sessior in the Sperryville High School without a teacher’s desk. Eac) * time I asked for (me I was ./told that there was not one available. I assume that ha< the school board had the money ■to purchase one, it would have done so. I had only a student’s desk and kept my papers ant records in the cloak closet which was infested with mice ‘ that had become quite adept in evading the mousetraps ant were careless little creatures ' with their person*! habit! where our papers and records were concerned. It seems that there were other county school & buildings Infested in the same way, as one year at Washing- ton I had a teacher’s desk which had been moved in from another school that had been closed when consolidation took place.
