Governor Mills E. Godwin, Jr., called for the observance of 'April as Cancer Control Month in a statement issued this week in support of the American C a neer Society's annual educational and fundraising Crusade in Virginia. In hi s statement, the Cover nor said:
v 'The concerted attack on cancer developed unprecedent ed strength last year, but even bo, 6,000 Virginians died of Che dread disease and 10,000 iiew cases were diagnosed in :he State.
"One-half of those who develop cancer today can be saved through early diagnosis and treatment, and expanded research brings better preventive measures and final cure closer to reality.
"During April, the American Cancer Society will carry bn its own crusade through volunteers carrying the lifesaving facts about cancer.
