4-H DOINGS...
The Winchester Market Lamb Show and Sales have been set for May 16th and June 13th. Lambs will be weigh ed and graded at 9:00 a.m. The show will be held at 10:30 a.m. and awards mad€ for Best Single lamb and Best Pen-of-Three. Lambs should be docked and all bucks castrated when under 30 days of age, preferably at 3-7 days of age. Rappahannock 4-H members with sheep projects who are, expected to take advantage of this opportunity include: Bill Snead, George Kidwell, Ronald McDonald, Billy Payne and Mac Dodson. Suckling ewes should have about 1 1/2 pounds of a 16% crude protein grain mix plus 3- 4 lbs. legume hay daily so they will give plenty of milk to keep their young growing fast. A lamb creep of shelled corn will also prove profitable until grass time. Young lambs should be started on cracked corn.
************ There are 420 Rappahannock boys and girls enrolled in 4-H this year.
************ Tommy Williams and Donald Deal are expected to enter 4- H Achievement Records in state competition this year.
