A single-vehicle crash Saturday which claimed the life of a 27 year old Negro woman from Pennsylvania made the first traffic death recorded on Rappahannock highways in 1966. The accident occurred at 11:30 a. m. on Route 522 a mile north of Huntly.
Mrs. Rose Marie Randall of Blythedale, Pa.-, was apparent ly killed instantly when she lost control of her vehicle on a curve and slammed into a tree, according to Trooper W. A, Buntin. She was operating a 66 Pontiac GTO heading south when she failed to negotir ate a curve, crossed over the highway and hit a tree on the left of the road. She sustained a broken neck, fractured skull, crushed chest and broken leg, and was taken to Scott Funeral Home in Front Royal by the rescue squad of that city. Riding with Mrs. Randall was her 2 year old son Michael who sustained a concussion and had several teeth dislocated. He was reported in satisfactory condition at Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal where he was taken by Deputy Sheriff Ernest Lillard. The vehicle, valued at $3000 was totally demolished, saic Mr. Buntin. Mrs. Randall was enroute to visit friends at Fort Bragg, N. C. where she had lived prior to the death of her husband who was killed in the Dominican Republic in September 1965. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Spencer of Blythedale arrived Sunday to claim the body and see to the welfare of their grandchild, said the Trooper.
