838 people in Rappahannock County received a total ol $515,628 in social security benefits in 1965, Mrs. Hazel F. Daly, Social Security District Manager in Winchestei revealed today, an Increase of $66,732 and 47 people ovei the year before. A large part of the'increase in payments resulted froir changes made by the Social Security amendments of 1965, Mrs. Daly said. Those changes which were in addition to the new program of health insurance for the aged, included a .7% increase in monthly benefits retroactive to January 1965; benefits for widows ae early as 60; benefits for fulltime students between 18 and 22; benefits for some divorcee women; benefits for some people over 72 who hadn’t worked long enough to get social security before; and the payment of disability insurance benefits to workers who are unable to work because of a disability that lasts 12 months oi more. *In addition to the people who began getting benefits ir 1965 because of these changes, Mrs. Daly continued, "a gooc many older people who, upor 'applying for medicare, found theywere eligible for regulai social security benefits, too.
