Ickes, last member of the New Deal cabinet named by President Rooso /elt, and held over by Truman, resigned from the Cabinet saying he would not perjure nimself for the Truman administration. Although the Jnited States Supreme Court ;ventually upheld Federal jwnership of the oil-rich tideands, quit-claim legislation vas subsequently passed by Congress giving control to the :oa8tal states to the threemile limit.
Mr. Harris also is a corecipient of an American Newspaper Guild Award, winner of the Agricultural Writ:rs Award, and has been given in Award of Distinction by the Jnlverslty of California at Los Angeles where he received his Master's Degree, and by Wash Ington University in St. Louis, which gave him its Alumni Citation *for outstanding achievements".
During the Harris’ four day stay at the Plaza Hotel they visited their daughter Miss Linda Gail Harris who has an apartment in New York and does youth counseling work.
