Marsh noted that the perj formance of the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) in Viet Nam had demonstrated “the I need for this type of military capacity, in conflicts in which classic concepts of warfare have proved inadequate.* He said the record of this specialized force in Viet Nam “justified the early creation of an additional airmobile Army division, “in order to re-inforce the combat readiness of our available strength,* Marsh emphasized that he t “shared the pride of all Americans in the performance of our forces in Viet Nam, of all services,* and felt certain that, “the people of the United States were ready to provide the fullest possible support for these forces.* “I do think, however, that we should convert an existing Army division, or more, to ‘airmobile’ capacity at the earliest possible moment, in order that this capacity might be on call for possible future needs,* Marsh said. “The military technology which we have developed at home, together with the competence with such units as our 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) have developed in combat ’ in Viet Nam, must be used to : give the American fighting man, of every service, the maximum advantage against the possible manpower margin of future adversaries,* Marsh said.
