A large crowd filled the town of Flint Hill to overflowing for their firemen's parade last Thursday evening. The gigantic parade featuring more than 150 units was the grand feature of the annual firemen's carnival.
Floats, bands, drum and bugle corps, majorette groups comic entries, and fire fighting and rescue equipment from I four states and the District of Columbia participated in the parade. The United States Navy Band from Washington, ( D. C. and grand marshal Deborah Lough, “Miss State Fair 1966” led the parade. Special guests included Linda Jo Maclin of Roanoke, the newly crowned "Miss Virginia”, and Wanda Ellinger of Charlottesville, "Miss Shenandoah Apple Blossom”. Miss Lough awarded prizes to winners in the various divisions. Prize winners were: Best high school band - First Charlestown High School Banq Charlestown, West Virginia; Second, Stafford High School Band, Stafford; and third, Monroe Jr. High School Band, Roanoke. Best drum and bugle corps - Virginia Lancers, Winchester. Best majorette group with band or drum and bugle corps - Stafford High School. Best drum major with bandor drum and bugle corps - Taylor High School. Best drum majorette with band or drum and bugle corps - Charlestown High School.
