Met in Culpeper
Thirty-five members of the Virginia Junior Angus Association met in Culpeper, August 1, 1966 for their Annual Awards Picnic and Annual Meeting. Mr. Jimmy Coyner, son of Mr. and Mrs. James V. Coyner, Star Route, Middlebrook was elected President for the upcoming year. Frank Graves, Syria, Virginia was elected Vice-President, Molly Penley, Bland, Virginia Treasurer, and Mike Jones, Earlysville was elected Reporter.
In addition to the election of officers and planning their next years’ program, a host of awards were given. The outstanding Individual award to the adult who had contributed the most to the Junior Association went to Mrs. Billings K. Ruddock, White Hall Farm, Charlottesville, Virginia. The recipient of the Outstanding Junior award was this years1 president, Miss Barbara Spangler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Spangler, Fredericksburg, Virginia. There were three new directors added, Frank Graves, Syria, Virginia; Mike Jones, Earlysville, Virginia; and B. A. Rucker, III, Tazewell, Virginia. The Annual Awards Picnic and Meeting was a day prior to the State Junior Angus Breeders’ Show, also held in Culpeper. A total of eighteen exhibitors from the far southwest of Virginia to the eastern shore of Chesapeake and as far in the northern part of Virginia as Middleburg exhibited 32 animals in the Junior Show. With both the Champion and Reserve Champion Female going to B. A. Rucker, III, son of Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Rucker of Tazewell. The Grand Champion Steer was exhibited by V. L. Johnson, Delaplane, Virginia. The Pre mier Exhibitor award also was won by B. A. Rucker, III.
