It went In the charge on the 3rd of July with one hundred twenty-five muskets and twenty-five officers. Eleven privates and two officers came out not wounded. Col. Hunton was made a Brigadier General after this battle; Norbourn Berkeley was made Col. of the 8th Virginia; Edmond Berkeley, Lt. Col.; William Berkeley,.Major; and Charley Berkeley, Captain in his brother William's place; so the 8th was known as the Berkeley Regiment.
