Affords Savings
The Virginia State Health Department’s six pilot projects in home nursing care afforded patients savings esti mated at more than $500,000 in a 3 1/2-year period, the department’s monthly publica tion reports. After medicare was approved by the U. S. government, Virginia became the first state in the nation to be approved by the Social Security Administration as meeting guidelines for a successful home health service program, the current issue of the Virginia Health Bulletin reports. No less than 56 city and county health departments have been qualified to provide home health services to residents of their localities by employment of additional personnel.
The Bulletin traces the progress of Virginia's pilot projects in home nursing care, started in 1962. These were established for the purpose of developing a program' to be made available' later in all parts of the state.
