Stories and songs which came out of that war indicated concern about men who had ‘'discovered* Paris; and many families worried about keeping their men at home after all their European adventures. None of this meant much to Gordon. On the last day of 1919, he married a "hometown" girl from Etlan, Leila C. Weakley, and settled down to raise a family of nine children, 6 girls and 3 boys. They are Eugene of Charlottesville; Mrs. Albert Tanner of Culpeper; Mrs. Edward Tucker, Mrs. Walter Wayland, and Mrs. Robert Way land of Orange - (the last two married brothers); Mrs. E. D. Jones of Radiant; Mrs. Thomas N. Aylor, Etlan; Theo dore E. of Achsah; and Hugh M. of Etlan. He bought the Etlan farm December 31, 1936, and occupied the large white frame house, within view from his present home. Between the years of 1933 and 1941, he was a WPA foreman working on the highways in and about Madison during most of that period. It was his crew which
