Of 47 local education associations making salary proposals to date, 28 are seeking salaries of $7,000 or more for bachelor-degree starting teachers next year. The lowest beginning proposal to date is $6,500.
For career teachers at the top of the scale, 17 are seeking five-digit salaries, led by Fairfax county which wants $14,705 for teachers with 12 years’ experience.
Two proposals call for beginning salaries which are in excess of $8,000. Prince William wants $8,500 and, although the Fairfax association only negotiates for teachers already in the system, its request for second year teachers would place that locality’s starting salary around $8,400.
Additionally, each of the 49 proposals exceeds the $500 state minimum increase for master’s degree teachers. Seventeen ask master’s increments ranging from $1,000 to $1,785.
Other minimum salary proposal leaders are Hampton at $7,820; Norfolk at $7,800; Loudoun, $7,600; Falls Church, $7,550; and King William, $7,500.
Orange is seeking $7,400; Accomack, $7,250; Rappahannock, Roanoke county and York, $7|200; and Buchanan.
