We have completed the third week of the special session of the General Assembly and there have t>een several public hearings and meetings of tthe various committees. The number of bills that have been introduced^have been limited because this session was called primarily to redistrict the State for the House, Senate, and Congressional Districts, and to implement the constitutional revision.
Several bills of general interest include one which will simplify the State Income Tax Returns. The purpose of this bill is to make the returns conform in many respects to the Federal Income Tax Return. It is provided in the bill that this law will take effect for the calendar year 1972.
Another bill has as its purpose the repealing of the State Capitation Tax but it does not waive this tax for the previous years, only for those in the future.
A bill relating to taxes authorizes the governing body of a county, city, town or regional government to provide for exemption from real estate taxes, property owned and occupied as the sole dwelling of a persons not less than&5 years of age. There are certain conditions which must be met and th^y are that the combined net ihcome of the inhabitants of the dwelling shall not exceed $10,000 per year and
