Rules Committee. It has been referred to the House Finance Committee for action. “This piece of permissive legislation is important to the farmer and a large segment of Virginia’s population,” said Virginia Farm Bureau President Robert B. Delano.

“It is in accord with a long standing Farm Bureau policy,” Delano said, “and has the support of conservation groups, the forestry industry, and many other organizations in Virginia who are vitally concerned with our environment.

“In some parts of Virginia the need for tax adjustment on farm lands is desperate,” the farm leader declares. “In other parts of the state it is serious and will become critical in the near future.”

In accordance with the new Virginia Constitution the provision of H. B. 99 would not apply in any county or city unless it was first approved by the local governing body. Additionally H. B. 99 would not apply to any land unless the owner annually filed application for use assessment.

The purpose of this bill is to preserve farm, forest, and open space lands in the face of increasing land taxes.
