First Day in Co’gress
Rep. J. Kenneth Robinson marked his first day in Congress by joining in sponsorship of a resolution to establish a House Committee on the Environment and of another to investigate further the non-judicial activities of Supreme Court ‘Justice William O. Douglas.
Supporters of both resolutions were drawn from both political parties.
The environment committee would have jurisdiction of legislation affecting water and air quality, waste disposal, pesticides and herbicides and excessive noise, such as that of jet aircraft.
A special committee would be established in the Justice Douglas matter, equally divided as .between Republicans and Democrats.
