A stitich in time saves nine, and the many stitches taken at Rappahannock Manufacturing Company has aided in saving or preserving the economic status of many Rappahannock families. This garment manufacturing establishment located near Flint Hill is the county’s only industry, as such. Its weekly payroll of as much as $40,000 has been a boon to many homemakers.

Rappahannock Manufacturing Company makes ladies wearing apparel which includes sports or casual garments as shorts, slacks, skirts and blouses, all made from a knit material also manufactured by a parent company in nearby Edinburg. This is cut before being shipped to the local plant.

The location here was established eight years ago and the building was financed through investment by local citizens, which was proposed for repayment within ten years. The original building contained 20,000 square feet of floor space and with 10 machines and 12 employees. In the interim, three additions have been made and the building presently covers 40,000 square feet of floor area with 320 machines and 400 employees of which about half are residents of Rappahannock and others coming from Warren County.
