Reporting on the central mountain area harvest, biologist Dennis Martin indicated that Bath County, with 1,737 deer, was the highest in his five-county area, which produced a total of 5,817.
Biologist Max Carpenter, with a report on the northern valley area of the state, stated that Rockingham County hunters bagged 2,203 deer and that for the six-county area 5,339 deer were taken. Carpenter also reported on the pheasant and bear results for his area, stating that 52 bear had been taken and 261 pheasants.
Vepco pays $3.8
million tax bill
Virginia Electric and Power Company has made its final Virginia State gross receipts tax payment of 1973 amounting to $3.8 million.
The check was delivered earlier to^Virginia’s Acting State Treasurer, Frank B. Miller Jr., and brings Vepco’s Virginia gross receipts tax payment during 1973 to a total of $17.1 million. This is an increase of $2.5 million over the $14.6 million payments the company made during 1972.
