VETERANS can help save themselves a lot of trouble and confusion in the future if they will utilize one of their benefits just as soon as they can after their discharge. This is the benefit whereby a veteran may have his discharge papers recorded absolutely free in the Circuit Court Clerk’s office in the county in which the veteran lives.
Virginia Veterans Service Director, Harry F. Carper, Jr., said, “The importance of a veteran having his discharge papers permanently recorded cannot be emphasized enough. If a veteran should ever lose his original papers, it becomes a simple matter for him to go to his county courthouse and secure a copy.
“But if the veteran fails to have his papers recorded, then the loss of these important documents can mean an untold amount of confusion and delays when the veteran or his dependent files for certain benefits and services.”
