“You have to remember, the sheriff’s department is on call 24 hours a day, and sometimes we’re running two or three calls behind,” Sheriff Jenkins said. “I’ve toured jails all over, and we don’t have a radio system, we furnish our own cars, and the cooks come free, and I’m just asking for onethird of a deputy’s salary,” he repeated.
