She was not complaining; I don’t think I have ever seen a person with a brighter outlook on life. ‘‘Dear God, forgive me when I whine, I can walk and the world is mine.” There is an Indian, Sioux I think, prayer that goes like this: O. Great Spirit, grant that I not criticize my brother till I have walked one moon in his moccasins.” I once thought it was one mile, but a moon seems more appropriate. I don’t suppose Indians knew about miles in their culture, but they did know about time. A moon is from the new moon till the next new moon; twenty-eight days. How many of us can refrain from criticizing someone for four weeks?
We seem to be thinking of the art of being ambulatory. Art? Can you imagine what it would be like to be confined to a chair or bed, not being able to walk, run and play? Let us be thankful for our blessings, for physical as well as spiritual, and especially for the Son who WALKED beside blue Galilee.□
