THE HOSPITAL, which opened its doors in 1960, was built with a half-million dollar community subscription campaign that got underway in 1957. It is a non-stock, non-profit health care institution, controlled by the citizens it serves. Members of the corporation, which is open to everyone at $3. dues per year, elect the Board of Directors that operates the Hospital, and vote on policy formation.
Culpeper Memorial Hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals, and licensed by the Virginia Department of Health. It received national recognition for its Family Practice Unit as an innovative response to a community shortage of family physicians, and is frequently cited as unique in the range of services for hospitals of its size.D
