THE • ANNUAL Regional Competitions for Bear, Deer, and Wild Turkey will be held on Saturday, October 19, at the Chamberlain Hotel, Fort Monroe, Hampton, and on October 24, 25 and 26th at the Fair Grounds in Harrisonburg. The contests are sponsored by the Eastern Regional and Virginia Peninsula Sportsmen’s Association, and the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chapter Izaak Walton League of America.
For the Eastern Regional phase, eligibility is restricted to any bear or deer legally killed in Virginia (according to the applicable Game Laws) during the 197374 hunting season with an accepted sporting weapon (EAST) of the Blue Ridge. Entry fee for this contest is $2. Entries for the Eastern phase of the contest will be accepted from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. on October 19.
The V.P.S.A. portion of the contest is open to Association members only and covers bear, deer, and turkey killed legally in Virginia during the 1973-74 hunting season. No fees are required in this phase of the contest; however, contestants must be bona fide members in good standing prior to the date of the kill. All trophies entered in either contest must be accompanied by the Virginia Big Game Tag.
Awarding of trophies will take place in conjunction with the fall meeting -of the VPSA which is -scheduled for 6 p.m. on the same date as the contest, October 19. THE WESTERN REGION: only game killed in the counties west of the Blue Ridge and in Nelson west of Route 151; Amherst west of Route 29; Bedford, Franklin, Patrick, Henry, and Campbell and Pittsylvania west of the Southern Railway. (See 1973-74 Hunting Law Digest.) Contest will be held October 24, 25 and 26, 1974 at the Fair Grounds north of Harrisonburg.
