POLITICAL talk has been heard aplenty throughout the Piedmont and Valley section of Virginia, and in the final two weeks or so before election day, there’s bound to be a lot more of it. And that’s all right. Talking is one of the things politicians are supposed to do, and writing about what they talk about is one of the things newspapermen are supposed to do, and by and large, both sides manage to live with the arrangement fairly well.
Politicians have done pretty well in denouncing each other, of course, and that’s been fairly entertaining. And as election day nears, we want to put in a plea that they please, please refrain from denouncing the voters.
That’s right, denouncing the voters. Sure as November 5 rolls around, one or another of the candidates will take off on a tangent the gist of which will be that if you, the Voter, don’t go to the polls and express a preference, anything that goes wrong afterward will be your fault. “Voter apathy’’ will also draw the ire of more than one editorial writer, if. we know anything at all about our own profession.
