AS THE CROWD watched, Rappahannock’s huntsman Jimmy Dodson laid the drag for the hound race, going around the two barns at the opposite ends of the race course. Excitement mounted as the 94 hounds were released and ran as a pack toward the first point. From there on only a few worked the line, the others took off over the mountain on the scent of a live fox.
Winning for the third time, and thus retiring the foxhunter’s challenge trophy, was Jack Bruce with Cleo. Second was Kelly Corbin with his big, blue-tick bitch, Blue Baby, with third going to James Alvin Compton’s Mede. Fourth and fifth place prize money and ribbons went to J.M. Gibbs Katie and Jack Bruce’s Julip.D
