PEACETIME veterans are now on the same basis as wartime veterans for hospital and nursing home care. Under the new law, honorable active service, even service of only one day, entitles a person to hospital care for nonservice-connected disabilities if otherwise qualified.
The basis requirements for hos- ■ pital care for non-service-connected disabilities are: hospitalization is deemed necessary; a bed is available; inability to pay for private hospital care.
Inability to pay is not a requirement in cases where a veteran is age 65 or over or in receipt of pension. Wartime service or service after January 31, 1955, is still a requirement for domiciliary care, if the applicant is unable to defray the expenses of domiciliary care.
