“But when they are listed, it s usually for a dollar apiece,” said Bruce. Everybody also agreed that chickens could come and go or change hands several times in the course of a year, and the fact that they were not listed on the personal property form, dated the first of the year, proved nothing.
“Last year, people offered me some big ol’ hens for 50 cents apiece,” Herbert Foster said, finally. “But now, maybe $1.50 might be fair for laying hens.”
