The Governor’s Council on criminal justice presented a report the middle of October at the State l apitol on the results of a statewide public attitude survey. The survey findings are the results of p/J sonal interviews conducted with lOOOVirginians in May 1975.
The agencies involved with the criminal justice system sought information on the level of citizen’s concern about crime and their understanding of the system. Those surveyed were asked what were the two or three most improtant problems facing the community. To this 55% specifically cited concern about crime and law enforcement. Economic concerns were mentioned by 50% and 16% or fewer named services (roads, sewers, etc) taxes and pollution.
Also when respondents were asked to select two or three most important problems from a list of 12, concern in crime and law enforcement were evident. Here crime and drug problems ranked in the top four, behind inflation
