MAYBE he was in a fog, but the headline writer really goofed last week. Of course, the Supervisors have not yet “set” the tax rate—they’ve merely decided to hold a public hearing on a $4.40 rate, which would be 50 cents higher than the current rate on each $100 of assessed value.
And of course a hearing must be held for the public giving an opportunity to comment oh the published budget. It’s the law, and our reporter knew it and so did the headline writer. Some telephone calls to the office, however, indicated some people didn’t read far enough beyond the headline to recognize the obvious error.
