No more fitting place could have been found to produce the sound and light production that the people of Rappahannock worked on for many months. A costumed narrator sat on the porch where George Washington often sipped his toddy after foxhunting. The First President, magnificently costumed in his General’s garb, was much in evidence in the pageant.
In Rappahannock County history, the name Thornton is as well known as the rounded rocks and weathered snake fences, the same type that George Washington jumped on his favorite hunter Buckskin (forerunner of the famous Blueskin) when he spent long periods visiting his Thornton cousins at Montpelier (pronounced Montpelair in order not to be confused with President Madison’s Montpelier).
