As a result of the well organized programs by the citizenship and patriotism committee, a singular honor was extended to the Amissville Ruritan Club in 1971. Receiving national recognition from among the 1,200 clubs, the Rappahannock Ruritans were presented with the winning of an award at Memphis, Tennessee. A large nylon United States flag with a standard, bearing a plaque, suitably inscribed, was presented to the local Ruritan president.
