Since the organization of the Ruritans, there have always been members who held membership in the Amissville Fire Department. Because of this relationship and the fact that the firemen are another volunteer organization, the Ruritans have faithfully made regular contributions. A security light in front of the fire house was given in 1962 and during the ensuing 15 years, its costs have been covered by the club. Two large serving tables, a United States Flag and annual gifts of almost SI,500 are tangible items of support; in addition, many hours of assistance are contributed each year at the department’s annual carnival.
